Before and After: The Coleman Estate

When we moved to Mystic Lane twelve years ago, it had Home Improvement written all over it. I thought it would be fun to let you see the changes that have taken place since we made this house our home.

We pulled out all of the old bushes, which were probably planted in 1970. They were most definitely past their prime. We replaced three yards of topsoil and put in all new shrubs. Then we had our friend Bud put a roof on the existing porch slab and put in a new front door.

Here is a view from the street. It's almost not the same house!!

We also added a screened in porch on the back of the house. (The beautiful evergreen on the right in the "before" picture got taken out when we lost the giant tree a few years back. You can see pictures of that fiasco here. It just clipped the roof of the porch, but killed three evergreens in the process. I still grieve their loss!)

Here are a couple of photos to show you what our porch is like on the inside. We love, love, love having that outdoor space.

.

Hope you liked seeing our makeover, 12 years and still going strong!! Thanks for clicking in!

The new entry way is so welcoming. The arched window light in the front door, rocking chair, and the wreath are great choices. Nicely done.
The screened in deck I'm sure is a delight. With the roof over that area you are shaded instead of baking in the hot summer sun, and no mosquitos and flies to ruin outdoor entertaining! It's a great place to relax and enjoy God's creation.

Julie,
The improvements are great. What a difference. You added great improvements for your enjoyment -- covered front porch and screened in back porch. Thanks for sharing the transformation with us.

Great vision to make these wonderful changes! The only thing missing is ME (Beth Parker) sitting on the back porch with a glass of iced tea. Ha. Excellent stewardship. Well done, dear friends.

I echo the sentiment about moving after 40. Alice stated that our kids will have to clean-out our house.
I....am not so sure. I am never content, (unlike my father)
btw--you come honestly by the green thumb; your parents had beautiful flowers.

Really nice curb appeal. You both did a wonderful job making your home so welcoming. I also like the solar panels. Go Green!

I just looked at your renovations and can feel your joy in making this house a home....a place to go for peace and serenity...it truly is lovely, Julie. And I echo what another gal said, I love to read your Dogwood Digest...keeps me grounded and able to embrace life. I live in Canada but wish I could attend your retreats, nessages to women. etc....You are an oasis at just the right time for me. Any other great books you can recommend to me/ One time I asked you and I got some great help.
Thanks!
